Time Management
A Semester Calender Weekly Planner (A) Study Time Takes approx 2 days to complete a chapter. The avg study time is 6 hrs per day, with a normal 4 day study week (1 day set-aside for: down time, lab, writing assignments, reviews, research, sick, holiday, etc). Therefore, a chapter requires 12 hours to be completely studied. A 3 subject courses require 6 days. How do we make up 2 days for a 3rd course? Solution: must complete a chapter in 8 hours!- Day 1: 1st reading + mapping each concept
- Day 2: 2nd reading + complete sentences for each map concept + prepare flash cards, + end of Ch Q&A
(B) Time Management- 1st week of classes: Re-write each course syllabus in Word: note test dates, due dates of assignments, any specific teacher's req. Plot a calender/timeline in Word (see GOOGLE calender) - set-up a Semester Calender!
- Also, complete a time management schedule with a timeline for all test and assignments and expected due dates for each subject. Bullet each points
- Upload/re-write each of the prof. assignment into Word, as soon as they become available. This way you can start thinking of the task ahead. Bullet each concept
- Complete this write-up +2 days prior to beg project. The sooner the better
- Project Outline List: Plan/map/Bullet each paragraph and as it relates to specific teacher's instructions.
- Estimate how long it will take to complete each paragraph/assignment. Setup your own due dates for each phase with an expected time of completion.
- A weekly planner is most helpful for open-ended projects
- Begin write-up for each paragraph and sub-points, as time permits and/or in between other projects
- Transcribe all research notes directly into Word, for quick retrieval and massaging
- Learn Advanced Word to better manage assignments more effectively
- Learn 10-key typing for faster note taking of research assignments
- Every night create a daily "action list" for the following day. Use your weekly and semester calendar to do this. You can even put in categories to set your priorities straight.
- Ultimately, must complete a chapter in 8 hours. A 4 day study week, at 6 hours per day = 24 hours available to study 3 chapters = 8 hours assign to each subject chapter (currently spending 12 hours per chapter for 2 courses) - use a timer!
- Most Prof notes are in PowerPoint - must know!
